Speak out against moves in Congress to end health care:
Call your Representative and tell them to oppose the 2012 U.S. House
Budget Proposal!
Later this week,
the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on its 2012
House Budget proposal, introduced by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis) last week.
The Republican majority's proposal will cut off health care to millions
of Americans by:
Repealing
the Affordable Care Act
Defunding
implementation of the Affordable Care Act
Turning
Medicaid funding into a "block grant" and capping the amount
given to states to provide health care
to low and moderate income children and families, people with
disabilities, seniors who need long-term and nursing home care, and
destroyuing the very foundation of the Affordable Care Act.
Privatizing
Medicare through vouchers for more expensive
private insurance that will dramatically shift costs to seniors and the
disabled.

Specifically, the 2012 House Budget Proposal would:
Raise health care
costs, and lower quality.
The House
proposes to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), dashing the hopes of the
32 million Americans who stood to gain affordable health coverage for
the first time. It also destroys the ACA's consumer protections,
cost-saving measures, and improvements to health care quality.
Seniors will again be subject to the Medicare donut hole;
People with pre-existing conditions will again be denied insurance
coverage;
Young adults will be booted from their parent's plans;
Small businesses will lose tax credits;
Health equity will no longer be a national priority;
and
Health care costs will continue to spiral out of control.
Weaken
the social safety net. The proposal converts
Medicaid into a block grant, further exacerbating state fiscal crises
and forcing drastic cutbacks to over 70 million poor, sick, or disabled
Americans - even children.
Abandon
the mission of health and retirement security for all Americans.
Starting in 2022, all Medicare beneficiaries will be forced to enroll
in private insurance plans that will cost seniors more than twice as
much as regular Medicare. The insurance industry will enjoy a windfall
of new revenue, and seniors will be forced to bear the brunt of higher
health costs out of their own pockets.
Enrich
the wealthy, impoverish everyone else.
The House proposes a massive tax cut for the richest 2% of Americans,
and yet keeps overall tax revenues the same. This makes an equally
massive tax increase for the middle-class inevitable.
